This year’s 31st Annual Rotary Read-In event was held virtually during the week of February 22-25, 2022.
Like last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, readers were unable to go into the schools to read to Kindergarten to 3rd Grade students so volunteer readers were asked to film and upload a video of themselves reading an age-appropriate book. Combined with last year’s video recording submissions, a grand total of 212 videos were uploaded and utilized this year, including 48 from members of the Stockton Police Department.
Barnes & Noble in Weberstown Mall offered a discount on Read-In books purchased in-store or on their website, and all bookfair proceeds were donated to the Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library. Barnes & Noble served as the drop-off location for all donated books and a total of 210 books were divided up and delivered to 68 area schools to enhance their libraries.
The Rotary Read-In was spearheaded by an organizing committee with representatives from the three (3) largest school districts in the area (Stockton, Lincoln and Lodi) and all five (5) Stockton Rotary Clubs: Rotary Club of Stockton, Stockton Pacific Rotary, Stockton Sunrise Rotary, North Stockton Rotary, and Central Rotary Club of Stockton. There were also representatives from the San Joaquin County Office of Education (SJCOE), the Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library, and local event partner Barnes and Noble.

Stockton Rotary Read-In

This year’s 33rd Annual Rotary Read-In event will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.
Please join us for this special opportunity to promote literacy among the children of our community by signing up for this event. It only takes a half-hour of your time but provides children with a great learning experience and you with a very rewarding time. You will be assigned to a K-3 grade class at a local City of Stockton elementary school.
As part of this commitment, you will need to buy an age appropriate book to read on this special day and then leave the book at the school as a donation. Barnes & Noble is offering a 20% discount when you mention the Rotary Read-In at checkout and they have prepared a suggested list of books – see our website at http://www.stocktonrotaryreadin.org/Suggested-Book-List
When you arrive you will check in with the office, often there is a hosted reception area so it's a good idea to check in early. You will be escorted to your assigned classroom and then have about 30 minutes to visit with the children, tell them about yourself, and share your book. Often they have lots of questions and the time goes by quickly. Upon leaving, you will leave the book with the teacher to add to the school library.
